The Olympic Committee of Israel held a special seminar for the first time at the Munich House in Tel Aviv, dedicated to a sensitive and significant topic – the impact of the Munich massacre on the identities of current athletes.
The day began with a wreath-laying ceremony, attended by Mr. Stephen Schmerz, representative of the Bavarian government in Israel, Mr. Uri Efraim, representative of the Olympic Committee, and athletes from the Wingate Institute for Excellence in Sports.
Later, an intergenerational panel was held, moderated by Yarden Har Lev, with the participation of Ilana Romano, the widow of the late Yosef Romano; Yehuda Weinstein, an Olympic fencer and member of the Israeli delegation to Munich in 1972; and Olympic athlete Yuval Freilich.
Today, round table discussions were held with academy athletes, delving into the meaning of memory and the impact of the Munich events on national and sporting identity today.
