Talent Identification Day in the Druze community took place in the Golan Heights

A talent identification day in the Druze community took place in the Golan Heights – an initiative of the Olympic Committee of Israel aimed at identifying young athletes with potential and integrating them into Israel’s Olympic delegations in the future.

Approximately 1,500 students from grades 2-5 from four authorities – Ein Qiniyeh, Masaada, Majdal Shams, and Buq’ata – participated in the event held at the sports complexes of Ein Qiniyeh and Masaada. They underwent tests in three Olympic sports: swimming, athletics, and cycling.

The project was born out of a desire to integrate non-Jewish society into the national effort to promote elite sports and to give every child in Israel an equal opportunity, even those from communities without professional sports infrastructure.

Each participant received a personal profile with the intention of creating a customized path for their athletic and educational development in collaboration with various sports federations.

The event also included a moving memorial ceremony in memory of 12 children who were killed in July 2024, when a direct hit from a rocket from Lebanon destroyed the football field in Majdal Shams. Representatives of the authorities, the Olympic Committee, and the Ministry of Sports laid a wreath in their memory at the site of the impact.

The project is led by the Olympic Committee of Israel, the Ministry of Sport, the Ministry of Education, the School Sports Association, the Elite Sports Unit, the Athletics, Swimming, and Cycling Federations, along with the local authorities in the Golan Heights.

Olympic Committee Chair Yael Arad noted that this is another significant step towards realizing the vision of integrating all of Israeli society on the path to excellence in sports, with the hope of seeing athletes from non-Jewish society also participating in the Olympic Games in the future.

The head of Ein Kinya Council, Wael Mughrabi, concluded: “For me, this is a dream come true – to see young people from the Druze community starting their journey towards the Olympics, representing the State of Israel, and proudly raising its flag.”
