Sharon Kantor grew up in a moshav – Avihail.
In her childhood, she tried several sports until at the age of 9 she decided she loved windsurfing the most.
When she was 13, Kantor competed in the European Championship for under 15’s for the first time and finished in third place.
In 2018, she won the European Championship for under-17’s. In 2021, she participated in the World Championships for the first time and finished in 9th place. 2023 was her breakthrough year, as she won a silver medal at the European Senior Championships.
After winning several more important tournaments, she was ranked first in the world at the end of the year.
At the 2024 World Championships, she won the gold medal, becoming the fourth Israeli to win the world title in the sport after Gal Fridman, Li Kurzits, and Shahar Tibi.
Following her victory, she was chosen to represent Israel at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In the Paris games, Kantor won the silver medal and was the first woman to win an Olympic medal for Israel in sailing competitions.
After 14 preliminary races, she finished second overall and advanced to the semi-finals, from where she qualified for the medal race.
In the medal race, Kantor passed the first two buoys in second place behind the British favorite and maintained her position until the finish line. The gold medal went to Martha Maggetti of Italy and the bronze to Emma Wilson of Great Britain.
