Pyeongchang 2018
The 23rd Winter Olympics were held in the city of Pyeongchang, South Korea, from February 2 to 25, 2018.
Pyeongchang defeated the cities of Annecy in France and Munich in Germany, which also submitted bids to host the games.
Pyeongchang has previously bid to host the Winter Games but lost to Vancouver and Sochi, which hosted the games in recent years. This is the first time South Korea hosted the Winter Olympics, and it is the third city in Asia to receive this honor, following Sapporo and Nagano in Japan.
In the games, competitions were held in the following disciplines: figure skating, speed skating, short track speed skating, ice hockey, curling, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, ski jumping, Nordic combined, freestyle skiing, snowboarding, biathlon, luge, bobsleigh, and skeleton.
