The Israeli windsurfing team achieved an impressive result at the European Championship in Portugal

Tamar Steinberg was crowned European Champion (foil) after winning the medal race, while Shahar Tibi won the silver medal.

The two finished in the top positions following an especially close battle, with Steinberg edging past Tibi in a dramatic photo finish in the final meters of the race.

Steinberg and Tibi exchanged the lead throughout most of the race, while only Spain’s Olympic champion, Pilar Lamadrid Trueba, managed to lead at certain stages.

Daniela Peleg finished in fourth place, just one spot away from the podium.

For Steinberg, this marks her first-ever medal at the European Championships, after winning the silver medal at last year’s World Championship in Aarhus, Denmark.

Israel also delivered a respectable performance in the men’s competition. Olympic champion Tom Reuveny advanced to the final after finishing first in the semifinals, but struggled to stay with the leading group in the medal race. Yoav Omer finished in fifth place.
