Thank you, Champion!
Sagi Muki, the man who brought us unforgettable moments of joy, has announced his retirement from competitive judo.
From his historic World Championship title in Tokyo 2019, through two European Championships, to the Olympic team bronze medal in Tokyo 2020—Sagi always represented us with his heart on the mat and the flag on his chest.
Beyond the achievements, Sagi taught us a lesson in determination, friendship, and the ability to rise stronger from adversity.
He was always the “Ambassador of Judo”—an athlete who proved that mental resilience and values are the true keys to victory.
Among Muki’s notable career achievements:
World Champion (2019): The crowning achievement of his career. Muki won the gold medal at the World Championships in Tokyo (under-81 kg category) after defeating the then-world number one, Matthias Casse of Belgium, in the final.
Olympic Bronze Medal (Tokyo 2020): Muki was a key partner in the Israeli national team’s historic bronze medal win in the mixed team category.
5th Place at the Rio Olympics (2016): Despite a severe back injury that threatened his participation, Muki displayed incredible fighting spirit and reached the medal bout.
Sagi, thank you for countless moments of racing hearts, for the tears of hope, and for the Israeli pride you spread across the globe.
The Olympic Committee wishes you great success in your next chapter!
