Israeli judoka Raz Hershko was crowned European champion today for the second time in her career, after winning the gold medal at the European Championships held in Tbilisi, in the over 78 kg weight category.
Hershko reached the European Championships final for the fifth consecutive year.
In recent years, she won gold in 2024 and silver medals in 2022, 2023, and last year, 2025.
Hershko began her campaign in the round of 16, where she defeated Irina Zhelezarska of Bulgaria. In the quarterfinals, she overcame Erika Simonetti of Italy, and in the semifinals she defeated Helena Vuković of Croatia.
In the final, Hershko defeated Léa Fontaine of France.
The head-to-head record had already favored Hershko prior to the match, and she proved it once again with a swift ippon victory just 52 seconds into the bout.
