The 25th Winter Olympic Games will open on February 6, 2026, with a festive ceremony at San Siro Stadium in Milan, and will continue until the closing ceremony on February 22 at Verona’s famous arena.
The uniqueness of the Milan–Cortina Games lies in their wide geographic spread, across 13 different competition venues that will not all be concentrated in a single city, but will take place throughout northern Italy, over an area of approximately 22,000 square kilometers, making use of existing infrastructure in the interest of environmental sustainability.
While Milan will be the hub for ice sports such as ice hockey and figure skating, the resort town of Cortina d’Ampezzo and other mountainous areas such as Bormio and Livigno will host the snow, skiing, and sliding sports. The Games will include 16 different sports and 116 medal events, with 2,900 athletes from 90 different countries, including Israel, taking part.
For the first time, ski mountaineering (Ski Mountaineering) competitions will be held at the Games.
