Barcelona 1992

In the Olympic Games in the city of Barcelona, Spain, in 1992 – the number of participating athletes was limited to 10,000, and with the addition of badminton and softball, the number of sports was limited to 25.

On the 40th anniversary of Israeli athletes’ participation in the Olympic Games, Israel, alongside 63 other countries out of 169 participating in the games, won Olympic medals for the first time.

Yael Arad won the silver medal in judo, a day before Oren Smadja won the bronze medal.
A commendable achievement was recorded by pole vaulter Dani Krasnov, who reached the finals.

The greatest winner of the Barcelona Games was the gymnast from Belarus, Vitaly Scherbo, who won six gold medals and became the star of the games alongside the American Dream Team in basketball, composed of stars from the American professional basketball league.
