Abishag Semberg started training in taekwondo in first grade. Her first coach was Maoz Sharabi, the brother of her current coach, Yechiam Sharabi.
In 2012, 2013, and 2015, she won gold medals at the Israeli Girls’ Championship, and in 2014, she won a silver medal at the Croatian Open Girls’ Tournament.
Samberg competes in the up to 49 kg and up to 53 kg weight categories.
Samberg surprised the
Israeli and global sports world when she won 4 fights and earned a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in the under 49 kg weight class.
This was the first Olympic medal in the history of taekwondo in Israel, and Samberg also became the youngest Israeli Olympic medalist at only 19 years old.
Samberg was included in Forbes Israel magazine’s 30Under30 list for 2022.
Samberg took part in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games where she was eliminated in the round of 16.
