This evening, an emotional tribute event was held at the Anav Center in Tel Aviv in honor of Gili Lustig, CEO of the Olympic Committee of Israel and one of the prominent figures in Israeli sport.
After 40 years of dedication and 12 years as CEO, sports professionals from different generations gathered to express their gratitude for his path and leadership.
The event highlighted his significant contribution to the success of Olympic sport in Israel and to the development of generations of athletes and coaches.
Chairwoman of the Olympic Committee of Israel, Yael Arad, said among other things: “This evening is one of tribute, gratitude, and deep friendship with a person who has demonstrated for decades all the qualities we would wish to see in the ideal Israeli: integrity, humility, love of the profession, the ability to make decisions under pressure, partnership and teamwork, and above all, an immense commitment to the cause.”
At the center of the evening, journalist Aviad Poharales interviewed Lustig, going through the key milestones of his career in Israeli sport.
Another surprise for Lustig was a greeting from the outgoing President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, who sent his regards from afar and said:
“Welcome to the retirees’ club, Gili. You are a person with tremendous passion, a professional committed to athletes. I valued every meeting with you. You are a special person with a sense of humor. Retirement is not bad—I can assure you.”
Dear Gili,
We love you, appreciate you, and thank you for everything!
