Timna Nelson-Levy (57 kg) recorded an impressive achievement by winning the silver medal at the European Championships, which she entered today in the second round.
On her way to the final, Nelson-Levy defeated opponents from Georgia, Finland, France, and Great Britain, and in the semifinal she overcame Sevilay Toprak in golden score.
In the final bout, Nelson-Levy started strongly and held the lead until 15 seconds from the end, when she was caught by her Georgian opponent, Liparteliani, the world No. 2, and was defeated by ippon.
This marks Nelson-Levy’s fifth medal at the European Championships. With today’s achievement, the 31-year-old became the oldest Israeli female judoka to win a medal at the European Championships.
