השר הממונה על המשחקים האולימפיים בטוקיו 2020 סקורדה יושיטקה, ביקר הבוקר בוועד האולימפי בישראל. ישראל היא המדינה הראשונה בה הוא מבקר מאז מונה לתפקיד לפני כשלושה חודשים. 
בקבלת הפנים במעמד שגריר יפן בישראל אייבושי קיוצ'י, השתתפו יגאל כרמי יו"ר הוועד האולימפי בישראל, אלכס גלעדי חבר הוועד האולימפי הבינלאומי, ד"ר שוקי דקל יו"ר הוועד הפראלימפי בישראל, גילי לוסטיג מנכ"ל הוועד האולימפי בישראל וניסים סספורטס מנכ"ל הוועד הפראלימפי בישראל וד"ר רוני בורנשטיין שגריר של רצון טוב של הוועד האולימפי בישראל.
יגאל כרמי יו"ר הוועד האולימפי בישראל אמר: "ביקרנו לפני כחודש וחצי ביפן והתרשמנו מאד מההכנות הקפדניות. אנו בטוחים שהמשחקים האולימפיים בטוקיו בקיץ 2020 יהיו הטובים ביותר שהיו אי פעם. התרשמנו מאד מהרוח המיוחדת וההתלהבות של העושים במלאכה".
השר סקורדה יושיטקה אמר: "היפנים רוכשים כבוד גדול לעם היהודי לא רק בישראל אלא לכל יהודי העולם. זה המקום שהכי רציתי לבקר בו. אנחנו נהנים משיתוף פעולה יוצא דופן עם הוועד האולימפי בישראל והוועד הפראלימפי. נשארה כשנה וחצי לפני פתיחת המשחקים ואני מבטיח לכם שנעשה הכל לביטחון המשלחות הישראליות ולהצלחת המשחקים".
בתחקיר המקדים על השר היפני התגלה שההובי הגדול שלו הוא אכילת תותים. מעבר לחלק הרשמי הטקסי, הפתיעו אותו המארחים בוועד האולימפי בישראל עם צלחת תותים טריים היישר מן השדה, שהעלו חיוך רחב בקרב המשלחת היפנית שראשיה אמרו "אלה התותים הטובים ביותר שאכלנו מימנו".
