Eliezer Halfin

 

Eliezer Halfin was born in the USSR and was a mechanic by profession. Halfin was a lightweight freestyle wrestler (-68 kg) for 11 years and ranked fourth at the USSR’s Youth Championships. He immigrated with his family to Israel in 1969, settled in Tel Aviv and was an outstanding athlete when he joined Hapoel as well as the national team. Halfin finished in 12th place at the 1971 World Championships held in Bulgaria, placed in second at an international tournament held in Greece in 1972 and was third in a competition in Bucharest. Participating in the 20th Olympic Games was a dream come true. Eliezer Halfin was 24 years old at the time of his death and is buried at the Kiryat Shaul cemetery.
