Yossef  Gutfreund was born in Romania and studied in medical school to become a veterinarian, however, he soon developed into an amazing wrestler. After immigrating to Israel, he joined Hapoel Jerusalem and was a businessman, but he spent most of his time in sports helping to advance his discipline. He was a judge at the 1968 Olympic Games in Tokyo and the World Championships in India as well as Bulgaria and was invited by the Organizing Committee of the 20th Olympic Games to judge in Munich. Yossef Gutfreund was 40 years old at the time of his death and left behind his wife and two daughters. He is buried in Jerusalem at the Har Hamenuhot cemetery.
