Mark Slavin was born in the an outstanding wrestler (-74 kg) at an early age.
In February of 1972, he became the Soviet Union’s Youth Champion in Greco-Roman style wrestling and was invited to the Olympic team.
He studied at the Institute of Physical Education in Minsk and his teachers and friends tried to stop him from immigrating to Israel,
but he wasn’t persuaded by they efforts. In May of 1972, along with his family, Slavin immigrated to Israel and moved to Bnei Brak.
He studied Hebrew at the Shefayim Ulpan and joined the Hapoel Tel Aviv wrestling team. After taking a special test,
he was added to the Munich delegation for the first and last Olympic Games of his life.
He was 18 years old at the time of his death and left behind his parents, a brother and a sister. He is buried at the Kiryat Shaul cemetery
