משלחת ישראל פיונגצ'אנג 2018
ישראל החלה להשתתף במשחקי החורף האולימפיים בלילהאמר 1994. עבור משלחת ישראל למשחקי החורף האולימפיים בפיונגצ'אנג קוריאה, תהא זו הופעה שביעית בהיסטוריה. הפעם, תופיע ישראל עם הנבחרת הגדולה ביותר בכל הזמנים.
השנה נקבעו כמה הישגים מרשימים ביותר, והגדול שבהם בקרב הגברים.
אלכסיי ביצ'נקו סיים במקום העשירי באליפות העולם שהיתה בהלסינקי והיוותה תחרות קריטריון. מיקום זה הבטיח לו ולמחליק ישראלי נוסף, מקום במשלחת האולימפית. מדובר בהישג מרשים. ביצ'נקו הוא מבכירי המחליקים של ישראל. עלה לארץ מאוקראינה לפני שש שנים, אחרי שבארץ הולדתו לא זכה לקידום מקצועי. אמו ואחיו גרים בנתניה. מתאמן בניו ג'רזי.
בשנים שאחרי, התקדם מבחינה מקצועית ושיפר את היכולות המקצועיות שלו, וב-2014 יצג את ישראל במשחקי החורף האולימפיים שהיו בסוצ'י שם סיים במקום ה-21. כבר בסיום המשחקים ב-2014, הציב לעצמו את ההופעה בקוריאה 2018 כמטרה, ולסיים במקום טוב יותר.
ב-2016 הוכתר כסגן אלוף אירופה, זכה במדליית ארד בגרנד פרי רוסטלקום 2016, וזאת בנוסף למדליות בתחרויות בינלאומיות שונות. בינואר 2018 סיים במקום החמישי באליפות אירופה שהיתה במוסקבה.
המחליק האומנותי השני של ישראל שיופיע בקוריאה הוא דניאל סמוכין (19) אלוף העולם לנוער לשנת 2016 , הוכתר לספורטאי השנה הצעיר של הוועד האולימפי בישראל ב-2016. תהא זו עבורו הזדמנות מצוינת לרכוש ניסיון בינלאומי רב, במיוחד כשמדובר באירוע השיא של ספורט החורף. בינואר 2018 סיים במקום ה- 26 באליפות אירופה שהיתה במוסקבה.
בספטמבר האחרון, התקיימה בגרמניה, תחרות ההזדמנות אחרונה לקבלת הכרטיסים האחרונים למשחקים האולימפיים בפיונגצ'אנג קוריאה. לתחרות זו נשלח הצמד יבגני קרסנופולסקי ופייג' קונרס שסיימו במקום הרביעי שהבטיח להם את הכרטיס לקוריאה. תהיה זו הופעתו השנייה של קרסנופולסקי והופעתה הראשונה של קונרס. במשחקים הקודמים בסוצ'י הופיע קרסנופולסקי עם אנדראה דוידוביץ. בינואר 2018 סיימו במקום ה- 9 באליפות אירופה שהיתה במוסקבה.
קרסנופולסקי וקונרס החלו את שיתוף הפעולה ביניהם רק באפריל האחרון, וקצב התקדמותם משביע רצון והפתיע את העושים במלאכה שכן ההתאמות להחלקה בזוגות דורשות זמן רב, ואצלם זה קרה, להפתעת אנשי המקצוע בתוך מספר חודשים.
במשחקים בקוריאה תתקיים בפעם השנייה בהיסטוריה (בסוצ'י 2014 היה הפיילוט) תחרות קבוצתית לנבחרות.
עשר הנבחרות הטובות בעולם מתחרות על תואר הנבחרת הטובה בעולם. הנבחרת מורכבת מניקוד כולל של כל הקטגוריות ועשר הנבחרות עם הניקוד הטוב ביותר, ישתתפו בתחרות זו. ישראל תהיה אחת מעשר המדינות-הישג מרשים לכשעצמו. זוהי קטגוריית תחרות חדשה, מהפכנית ומאוד פופולרית.
לתחרות זו יצטרפו:
אדל טנקובה (17) ורונלד (רוני) זילברברג (21), זוג ריקוד, שהחל את דרכם המשותפת לפני כשנה, והחיבור בינהם היה מהיר מאוד. עברו מקטגוריית הצעירים לבוגרים לפני כשנה. השתתפו באליפות אירופה ותחרויות בינלאומיות. באליפות האירופה שהתקיימה בינואר 2018 לא העפילו לגמר.
איימי ביוקנן (25), מחליקה בקטגוריית נשים, תתחרה במסגרת התחרות הקבוצתית. ביוקנן מתאמנת בטקסס ומייצגת את ישראל בשנים האחרונות. השתתפה באליפות אירופה ואף בתחרות הקריטריון בגרמניה, אך עקב כניסת יום כיפור, לא השלימה את ההופעה עם הריקוד הארוך. באליפות אירופה האחרונה שהתקיימה בינואר 2018, לא העפילה לגמר.
בנוסף להחלקה אומנותית על הקרח, משתתף במשלחת ולדיסלב ביקנוב מחליק הריצה המהירה על הקרח. זוהי עבורו הופעה שנייה במשחקי החורף האולימפיים. בסוצ'י, הוביל את משלחת ישראל כנושא דגל ישראל בטקס הפתיחה.
ביקנוב המדורג בעשירייה הראשונה בעולם. ב-2015 הוכתר לאלוף אירופה למרחק 3000 מטר. ב-2017 זכה במדליית ארד באליפות אירופה ב-1500 מטרים. בינואר 2018, באליפות אירופה שנערכה בדרזדן, גרמניה, סיים ביקנוב במקום ה- 3 במקצה ל 1500 מ' , מקום 5 ב- 500 מ' ובמקום ה 21 במקצה ל- 1000 מ'. בנוסף, זכה במדליית זהב במקצה ל- 3000 מ', מקצה לא אולימפי.
ביקנוב עלה לישראל עם משפחתו שהיה ילד קטן והשתקעו בקריית שמונה, שם גילה את הריצה המהירה על הקרח והפך להיות חלק מקבוצה שמנתה בזמנו כ-100 מחליקים. התגייס לצבא והמשיך לעסוק בספורט. בשנים האחרונות הוא הרץ המהיר היחיד שיש לישראל. בשלב מסויים הוא עבר להתאמן בקנדה, ובהמשך עבר להולנד להתאמן עם הנבחרת ההולנדית. בשנים האחרונות הוא חי בהולנד, מתאמן עם הנבחרת ההולנדית הנחשבת לאחת מהטובות בעולם ומתחרה איתם.
איתמר בירן (19) שנולד בישראל החל לגלוש סקי בגיל שלוש עם אביו ובגיל שלוש עשרה הפך תחום גלישת סקי הפך להיות מאד משמעותי בחייו. שמונה חודשים בשנה מוקדשים לגלישה על השלג ושאר הזמן מוקדש מבחינתו לאימונים על "יבש" (חדר כושר, כושר גופני כללי וכו'). הישג השיא שלו: מקום 49 באליפות העולם שהיתה בשוויץ.
אדם אדלמן (AJ), בן 27, ארה"ב. אדם מחליק כבר מגיל 14 (התחרה בהוקי קרח לפני כן) וחלומו היה להגיע למשחקים האולימפיים. אדם , בעברו שחקן הוקי קרח, השיג את הקריטריון הבינלאומי ובכך הפך לספורטאי המזחלות הראשון שמייצג את ישראל. בסה"כ יתחרו במזחלות 30 ספורטאים במשחקים.
Israeli Delegation – Pyeongchang 2018
Israel began its participation in the Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer 1994. The winter games of Pyeongchang, Korea, will be Israel's 7th ever participation in the event.
Israel will present its largest ever delegation to the winter Olympics, with a total of 10 athletes that will compete in Korea.
The last year brought some impressive achievements by Israeli athletes, the most outstanding among them coming from the men's side.
Alexei Bychenko finished 10th in the men's singles category in the 2017 figure skating world championships, which took place in Helsinki, Finland, and served as an Olympic criterion competition. His final ranking secured not only his place in Pyeongchang but an additional quota for an Israeli male skater. Bychenko, one of Israel's premier skaters in history, immigrated to Israel six years ago from Ukraine, after not receiving enough professional promotion in his country of origin. His mother and brother live in Netanya, Israel, and he trains in New Jersey, USA.
After his immigration to Israel he began progressing professionally, and in 2014 represented Israel in the Sochi winter games. Bychenko finished 21st in those games, and immediately set his goals to a better performance in the 2018 edition of the games.
In 2016, Bychenko won the silver medal in the European championships, won a bronze medal in the Rostelecom grand prix, and other medals in various international competitions. In January 2018 he finished 5th in the European championships in Moscow, Russia.
Israel's second competitor in the figure skating men's singles competition in Pyeongchang will be 19 years old Daniel Samohin, the 2016 junior world champion, who was named young athlete of the year by the Israeli Olympic Committee for his achievement. Competing on the biggest stage of winter sports will provide this young talent with an excellent opportunity to gain valuable international experience. In January 2018 he finished 26th in the European championships in Moscow, Russia.
In the pairs skating category Israel will be represented by Evgeni Krasnopolski and Paige Conners. The pair won their ticket to the games by finishing 4th last September in the final quota allocation competition in Germany.
For Krasnopolski this will be a second appearance in the winter Olympics after having competed with Andrea Davidovitz in the Sochi games. For Conners this will be a first time appearance. In January 2018 the pair finished 9th in the European championships in Moscow, Russia.
Krasnopolski and Conners only began their partnership last April and the rate of their progression is very satisfying. The adjustments in pairs skating usually take a long time, and the professional staff is positively surprised with the advancements made in just a few months.
The 2018 edition of the games will see the second ever appearance of the team competition format in figure skating, after the pilot appearance in 2014. The ten best teams in the world will compete for Olympic honors. The team total score is composed of the sum of scores of the four categories of figure skating. Israel's qualification to this new, revolutionary and popular competition in the Olympics is already an impressive achievement as it is.
Completing the Israeli team to the figure skating team competition:
Adel Tankova (17) and Ronald (Rony) Zilberberg (21) , will compete in the ice dance category. The couple started their joint way about a year ago with a very fast connection and moved from the junior age group to the senior level. They participated in various international competitions in 2017, and in January 2018 participated in the European championships but didn't qualify to the finals.
Aimee Buchanan (25) will compete in the ladies' singles category. She trains in Texas, USA, and represents Israel in the past few years. Buchanan participated in the final quota allocation competition in Germany, but couldn't perform her long program routine because of the Jewish holiday of Yom Kipur. In January 2018 she participated in the European championships but didn't qualify to the finals.
Another discipline for the Israeli delegation in the games will be the short track speed skating. Vladislav Bykanov will compete in his second winter Olympics after carrying the Israeli flag in the opening ceremony of the Sochi games.
Bykanov is ranked among the top ten in the world in his discipline. In 2015 he was crowned as European champion in the non-Olympic 3000 meters' event, and in 2017 won the European bronze in the 1500 meters' event. In January 2018, in the European championships held in Dresden, Germany, Bykanov won another bronze medal in the 1500 meters' event, took 5th place in the 500 meters and finished 21st in the 1000 meters. In addition, he was crowned again as European champion in the 3000 meters.
Bykanov immigrated to Israel with his family as a little boy and settled in the northern city of Kiryat Shmona, where he discovered the sport of speed skating and joined a club that consisted back then of 100 skaters. After finishing high school, he joined the army, and during his military service he continued his training under a special status for future elite athletes. In recent years he is Israel's only short track speed skater. At a certain point, Bykanov decided to move his training base to Canada, and later on moved to the Netherlands where he trains and competes with the Dutch national team, considered to be one of the leading teams in the world.
Itamar Biran (19), born in Israel, began practicing ski with his father at the age of three, and at the age of 13 made Alpine skiing a significant part of his life. Eight months of his year are dedicated to ski training and the rest to "dry" training. Biran's peak performance so far was a 49th place finish in the world championships that were held in Switzerland.
Adam (AJ) Edelman (27), is the 10th member of the Israeli Team for Pyonchang 2018 . He is a four-time Israeli National Champion in the skeleton event and holds Israeli track records on almost every track he has raced on. He has competed in two World Championships for Israel (2016, 2017). He is Israel's most decorated slider with 2 international medals in competition and will be representing Israel in the Olympic Games for the first time.
